I am currently welcoming donations towards Jane Grey's Paparazzi Blog Project, which is fiscally sponsored through Fractured Atlas. You can make a secure donation through their website below:
The Jane Grey Paparazzi Blog is an internet art project incorporating photography, community interaction, and public performance. The project aims to legitimize the manufactured fame of pop star Jane Grey in order to critique pop music culture, celebrity image, and the internet experience.
The Paparazzi Blog project asks the general public to take pictures of Jane Grey, who will be dressed in a celebrity costume, and upload them online. Jane Grey will approach random people who are carrying a camera or smart phone in crowded "touristy" areas in San Francisco and Los Angeles. She will ask them to take her picture with their personal camera and hand them a postcard. The front of the postcard lists the Paparazzi Blog website and the following statement written in several languages: "Please upload your photo to this website." Jane will pose for the photographs in a way that reminds one of the typical paparazzi style.
Ultimately many of the creative decisions will be left up to the anonymous photographer, such as exposure, composition, and any desired photoshop editing. However, upon uploading the photographs online, he or she must agree that Jane Grey has all rights to the image(s). The Jane Grey Paparazzi Blog project will challenge ideas of authorship while placing the general public in control of fabricating Jane's celebrity image.
